FLAME, the Feminist Led Activist Movement to Empower, is a political student group at the University of Idaho that takes women's issues seriously by promoting gender equity and tries to raise awareness of the many systems of inequality in which we live, participate in, and suffer from. FLAME operates and works closely with the University of Idaho Women's Center and the UI Violence Prevention Programs; collaborates closely with the UI chapter of VOX, Voices for Planned Parenthood; and continues to maintain strong relationships with other student, campus, and community groups. As of now, FLAME is not affiliated with a larger national organization though this has been and continues to be discussed. Suggestions are welcome! FLAME frequently fundraises for our local domestic violence and sexual assault survivor support agency, Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse (and several members are current or past volunteer advocates!). We continue to pool our resources and talents with other community groups and when possible, we also contribute money we have raised to feminist and related causes. Students and community members, supported by university faculty and staff, comprise the FLAME group...
