We're all aware of the widespread devastation Hurricane Katrina has caused, and continues to inflict, upon the South. While our hearts go out to everyone affected by this tragedy, we've been compelled by the stories of displaced college students - just like us - whose lives and educations are being turned upside down.
We encourage you to refer any affected college students to this link, which outlines the University's broad humanitarian efforts, including scholarship offers and automatic admission.
As a group, efforts are underway to organize a multi-group, non-partisan fundraising/clothing drive/etc. on the UI campus. Please stay tuned for more information, as more clubs are contacted and plans are finalized. If you are interested in obtaining more information directly, or would like to work with the College Republicans on this issue, please contact acting president Laurel Zimmer at (208) 301-3267.
We would also like to share the text of a letter sent out by Louisana Federation of College Republicans Chairman, Keith Gates, to CR state chairs across the nation. You can view the letter in .pdf format by clicking here. Please contact us at CR@UI before contacting Keith directly, however, so we can coordinate our efforts and avoid innundating him with emails. Finally, if you would like to go ahead and donate money to the relief effort, we are currently able to recommend these trusted organizations:
And finally, please keep our hurting countrymen, hardworking volunteers, ever-courageous peacekeepers, and elected officials in your thoughts and prayers. The thoughts of CRs are with them all.
